Prop 8

Takes a gutsy man to say this on the national news.

I can see--while I don't agree with--the free speech "we don't want our children learning this is OK in schools" argument--but it is genuinely far beyond me how gay marriage is a threat to traditional marriage in any substantive way.

Wow. I don't like emotional speeches so I didn't listen to all of it, but *wow*! That is a long, gutsy thing to say.

While I do not feel gay relationships should be recognized through marriage, I feel deeply for these individuals. As for "gutsy"? I'm not sure. Based on the elections about 1/2 of the voters would see this guy as a hero--including most celebrities and many high profile individuals. I avoid most forms of news, but don't find it shocking in the slightest that such a commentary would make the "fair and balanced" news report. My prayers are with all. And my hopes are for people to find the happiness they are seeking. I will continue to go about my pursuit of happiness trying with all earnest not to offend the God I believe in.

I was referring to the way making such an emotional appeal is very far out of line with accepted gender practices for a man.

Especially on behalf of homosexuals.

Also, I respect that you feel the need to uphold your faith, and that is important to you. .. but the point of laws is how they effect individuals. The only consistent position I can think of for someone in favor of banning gay marriage to take, if they proclaim themselves in favor of happiness, is that gay marriage is long term destructive of happiness. . .
which I believe is consistent with your religion.
